The Center for Civic and Urban Engagement celebrates Wittenberg’s distinct urban environment. Springfield is a small city facing many of the same challenges as large metropolitan areas across America. What sets Springfield apart? As urban policy expert and author David Rusk said during his visit to campus last fall: “Springfield is small enough to do something about the problems it is big enough to have.”

Our Mission:

The Center for Civic and Urban Engagement promotes responsible, productive, and thoughtful scholarship, service and collaboration between Wittenberg University and the Greater Springfield area, creating a more vibrant, cohesive community.
