Summer GIS Study
In the summer of 2008, two of our Geographic Information System (GIS) students, Matt McDonald and Taylor Hafley, began to examine where after school programs are located in comparison to where students who need them live. Their work will be continued by a class of GIS students in the Fall of 2008. They are shown below presenting at the Aspire P-16 Board Meeting.

Phase I Complete: GIS Mapping
Phase I of our goal to strengthen After School programs is complete. A GIS class led by Professor Olga Medvedkov in the Fall 2008 semester was able to map the locations of all After School programs in Clark County. For every program, the class also researched 38 data fields, which includes everything from contact information and eligibility requirements to the grades they serve and area of academic concentration (if any).
Currently, work is being done to develop an interactive database of these afterschool programs to help parents and providers find each other.
