For Students

The Center provides students a link to the local community and beyond so that they may explore hands –on experiences in their major field of study, their future career path, or their personal area of interest. By connecting students with government offices and agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses both large and small, the Center empowers students to take an active role in addressing challenges being faced by American cities today.

How Can Students Engage?

Students who work with the Center for Civic and Urban Engagement have the opportunity to work with the Springfield community in a variety of ways throughout their four years at Wittenberg:

-Applied Research
-Service Learning
-Internships
-Student Employment
-Special Events
-Community Summer Internship Program

With Whom Will Students Interact?

Through Center projects, students apply what they are learning in the classroom in the real-world.  During the course of any project students may work with:

-Community Partner Agencies
-Campus Groups
-Local residents
-Children
-Faculty
-Center Staff

Can Students Make an Impact?

Yes they can!  Wittenberg students have already:

-Reported on the Status of Women in Clark County
-Identified and located every afterschool program in Clark County
-Assessed the effectiveness of Supplemental Education Services
-Completed GIS report on Springfield foreclosures that resulted in + $6 million grant
-Designed full scale marketing and communications campaigns for local non-profits
