Getting Started
Date: January 30th, 2009

Now that I am a few weeks in the semester I realize that it is going to be fun yet extremely busy. I am taking three classes this semester along with an internship for the Springfield5 television channel. After meeting a few times with Kelly, Sarajane, Connie Chappel, and Shannon Meadows, we each have come up with a few projects.

My first project is to create a series of “citizen enhancement” programs to inform Springfield of some of the opportunities Springfield has to offer. I have split the program into a number of different sections including: adult education, children education, medical support, food, and more. The topic I am going to begin with is education, where I will create a program that informs and promotes some of the free educational programs available in Springfield.

In addition to this, I am also working on a “Death of Analog” project that goes hand in hand with my Senior seminar class for the communication department. For this, I am working for a project that will not only serve as a PSA about the end of analog, but it will also show some clips from our Death of Analog party here at Wittenberg. So, with all of this I have to say I am keeping myself pretty busy!

Death of Analog Party and PSA
Date: February 16th, 2009

The past two weeks, I have been working on a Death of Analog project. Our senior seminar class is to have a party Feb. 17th to celebrate the end of the Analog era. Some of the class decided that we wanted to put on a party open to all of campus that will not only inform students about the official end of analog and rise of digital, but also to celebrate our television history. This party gave me the opportunity to combine the goals of our class with the goals of Springfield5. Having that said, I set to work on creating somewhat of a public service announcement (PSA) that would be fun and spunky while still being informational for the Springfield community. The party itself will have information about what the death of analog is and what it means. We are also hoping to have someone come show how to use one of the converter boxes that is necessary if someone does not have a digital television. The PSA is funny, will give information about what analog is, why it will not longer be working, and what to do if you do not have a digital television. The program will also show clips from the party at Wittenberg. I hope that this will be a humorous and entertaining change for the Springfield5 channel and that it will help attract more viewers. I hope that it will also promote Wittenberg and show what they are doing to try to help others.

The party is this Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 at 7 pm in Ness Auditorium! The death of Analog is coming. Are YOU ready? Keep your eye to see this on Springfield5!

After the completion of this project, I will continue working on a project that will highlight the different programs and services available to Springfield citizens with different needs. The first organization I will highlight is Circles, which is a program that helps families get out of poverty.
